Learning Support
Students are at the center of learning at Seoul International School. To guarantee all students meet their learning goals, SIS has a Student Support Team (SST). The SST is a collaborative group of teachers, specialists, and administrators who work together to create plans that support the individual needs of students. The goal of the SST is to help support classroom teachers and students with additional interventions and strategies to best facilitate the learning needs of each student. Interventions may include new teaching strategies, differentiation and/or modification of instruction.
In Middle School, the Language Arts Support and Math Support courses provide students with learning strategies and academic support to supplement the SIS math and language arts curriculum. The Academic Support Teachers work closely with the grade-level teachers to provide assistance until the student is able to demonstrate the ability to function successfully and independently in the classroom.
Language Arts Support
In Language Arts Support, students build on the instruction from their Literacy and Communications classes in a smaller group setting. Students work with the instructor to develop skills and strategies to become stronger readers, writers, and communicators. Each student will focus on completing tasks designed to help demonstrate his/her potential. Major emphasis is placed on helping students develop active study strategies, as well as note taking, test taking, organizational, and time/task management skills.
Math Support
In Math Support class, students build on their Mathematics instruction in a smaller group setting, while teachers monitor the learner's understanding of the mathematical language, concepts and skills and what they need to do to succeed. Each student will focus on completing tasks designed to help demonstrate his/her potential. The major goals include reviewing content from grade-level math classes and basic math skills. Emphasis is also placed on helping students develop active study strategies, as well as note taking, test taking, organizational, and time/task management skills.
